Sana, pronounced sah-nah, is spanish for 'heal.'
My mom was a happy, funny, kind, amazing soul who profoundly touched so many lives. She ascended from this earth in December 2023 from complications of pancreatic cancer. Most would say that she died of cancer. However, when she started to decline, her cancer was well-managed; her numbers in the normal range. Sadly, other organs began to fail. Whether due to the chemotherapy, mismanaged medications, or a dangerously low drop in her blood sugar one scary night, we'll never know. What I do know now looking back is that her inflammatory and autoimmune challenges started early in her adult life. If I can save myself or any of you some later suffering by making changes today, I will consider it an honor to her legacy.
The name Sana Sana comes from this traditional Spanish rhyme my mom used to say to me when I was hurt or not feeling well:
'Sana, sana, colita de rana.
Si no sanas hoy, sanaras manana.'
The literal translation is, 'Heal, heal, little frog's tail. If you don't heal today, you'll heal tomorrow.'
In other words, 'Have faith! You CAN and you WILL feel better.'
Healing is a process. Whether we're trying to heal physically or emotionally, it takes time and attention. Each day we give attention to our healing is one step closer to feeling better, and then better yet. So keep the faith, and keep going!
